One of the best springs on the Suwannee River for families, Fanning Springs is known for its giant cypress trees, crystal-clear 72°F water, and easy walk-in swimming area.

If you're already visiting Fanning Springs, you're only about 25 minutes from Manatee Springs State Park. They're easy to combine into one day trip.
Best for Families and Budget - Rum Island Spring
One of the easiest and most family-friendly swimming holes along the Santa Fe River, Rum Island is known for its shallow crystal-clear water, gentle walk-in entry, and laid-back atmosphere. It's a small county park, but that's part of its charm. Kids can safely splash near the spring while paddlers float past on the Santa Fe River. Parking is just $5 per car, making it one of the best budget-friendly spring stops in North Florida.
🌴 Florida Tribe Tip: Visit on a weekday if you can. The spring is much quieter, and it's a great place for a picnic or a relaxing afternoon by the water.
Best for Tubing/Kayaking – Ichetucknee Springs
One of Florida's most iconic spring runs, Ichetucknee Springs is famous for crystal-clear water, lazy tubing, and scenic paddling through a lush cypress forest. Float the river, swim at the head spring, or rent a kayak or canoe to explore at your own pace. We loved paddling because it let us slow down and enjoy the entire spring run. Arrive early in summer, as the park often reaches capacity before mid-morning.
🌴 Florida Tribe Tip: If you're kayaking instead of tubing, launch early for calmer water, fewer crowds, and the best chance to spot turtles, fish, and other wildlife.

Hidden along the western shoreline of Merritt's Mill Pond, Shangri-La Spring is one of the clearest swimming spots in North Florida. Paddle here by kayak or take the short trail from the parking area to slip into refreshing 72°F crystal-clear water surrounded by limestone walls and lush ferns. We spent hours swimming, climbing the rocks, and exploring the nearby underwater cave entrance. If you only have time for one swim on the pond, make it this one.

The best way to experience Merritt's Mill Pond is from the water. Covering more than 200 acres of crystal-clear, spring-fed water, the pond feels like you're floating on glass in a clear kayak. We paddled beneath towering cypress trees, drifted over bubbling spring vents, and reached hidden coves and swimming holes that can't be accessed from shore. It's the easiest way to experience everything that makes this place so unforgettable.
